Beginners photography course starts in January

Its always great to start a new course, meet new people, and get stuck in! The beginners course will start on Monday 24th January (one week after the published date due to the weather).

New course underway!

My ‘Serious Amateur’ course, aimed at those wanting to get even more out of their D-SLR, starts today!
We go deeper into some more advanced techniques including HDR, Multiplicity, Timelapse, Off-camera flash and we make more use of software such as Adobe Photoshop.

Baby photoshoot

Happy parents loved my pictures of their kids, a nice photoshoot with great results!
Conditions were quite tricky but the baby was very alert and loved the camera. Very cute pictures!

A unique opportinuty

Eclipse Bowling in Workington opened their doors leading to some great photos including a view behind the scenes at the machines making the bowling alley tick. A great photoshoot under difficult conditions went beautifully!

Open evenings for the Photography course(s) starting in September!

We are running open evenings on 2nd and the 7th September (6pm both days) where you can come along and discuss courses face to face with the tutor. You’ll get some good info if you can make one of these dates!

Remember, the beginners course starts 20th September. The more advanced starts after the beginners concludes.

New equipment addition – Canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM II

As part of my expansion plan for the best Canon professional equipment, I bought the new mk2 version of the already superb Canon 70-200 f2.8 image stabilised lens along with the 2x Canon extender. Well worth the outlay, this lens is simply amazing!

News update – a busy time! And the courses have completed!

The last few weeks have been fantastic behind the camera!! With weddings near Barnsley and also Warrington (yes I do go outside Cumbria!) and plenty of work for the newspapers I’ve been flat out and thoroughly enjoyed it. Some great freelance work was scarred by the tragic loss of life in the local area and we all pray for their families and friends.

The two digital photography courses have completed now with very happy customers and I’m looking forward to the next ones after the summer holidays. We had fantastic and enthusiastic students enrolled and the course was enjoyed by all – the complaint was that it wasn’t long enough!

Gaiety Cinema pictures cause a stir

It seems that my pictures which ran in The Whitehaven News have provoked a good reaction!
Page 10 of this weeks’ paper (23rd December 2009) features letters from the public who having seen my pictures are backing up the plea to re-open the cinema, especially in light of the Workington bridge disaster which makes it difficult to get to the local multiplex.

There is even a Facebook group called Re-open the Gaiety Cinema – please join up!

First real-world test of a 1DmkIV

Very interesting, this is the first review of a 1DmkIV at a wedding shoot.
I’m looking into this camera, one of the best professional cameras out there.

Beginners photography course concludes

The Digital photography for beginners course concluded successfully today with the last field trip.  Put back a couple of weeks due to the weather, we were at Ennerdale today looking at the effects of low light and slow shutter speeds.

We had a great class, everyone enjoyed what they learned and some of the class are now sitting the next level course.
